yellow lighting.

some of the people who comes by my blog often email me asking if i use any effects on my photos to get that "vintage-y" look. and i would like to make a post about it here just so that it can be clear.. and maybe others are curious about it too.

a photo like the above did not use any effects to make it look like it is. it's mainly because of the lighting in my house, which is yellow bulb instead of white bulb that creates the yellow tint in most of my indoor photos.

you have no idea how much i wish to have a clear white bulb to be used at home but yellow bulbs do create that comfort home-y feeling. so i guess i can't complain. i used to hate looking at how my photos turn out, a little washed out in yellow but i've come to appreciate it as it is.

as for my other photos (example: here), i do use effects in photoshop to get the vintage-y colors because it's fun doing it and creating something i don't get to see with my actual eyes :)

oh and ps. i'm trying something new with my doodles. instead of scanning, i'm taking photos of them. it's kind of easier to do as well. but i'm not saying i'll be stuck doing this, it's just experimenting!

yay or nay?

why cant you get clear light bulbs?

YAY, I think, because you can work great with different backgrounds, conjure special moods and involve the shaping of your cut-outs with landscape etc.
I especially love the first saying, so true!

i'd say YAY! because it makes for a nicer frame, but it's a little harder to read the words (like on the bottom one). it's not exactly like i'm struggling here, but it makes the doodles less the focus of the image.
but i am such a fan and love whatever you do!

I love the idea of taking photos rather than scanning them in!

Your clarification reminds me of the disclaimer at the end of Tim Walker's photography book, where he states that none of his images are computer manipulated. :)

My grandparents' old house also had those yellow lights when I was growing up. It was and old house too, built maybe 70 years ago, so it fit. It was hell on the eyes though, when I wanted to read hehe.

I've always known that you write what you post but I still cannot believe it's not a font!!! It's so randomly organized! I love it :)

Pictures are more 'lively' than scans (and if it's easier maybe we'll get to see more doodles...)
So, yay!
