nothing is ever a coincidence

i wasn't sure if i wanted to post this on the blog. i wondered, maybe i should just keep it to myself..? but i thought about it some more.. and i don't think i can just let it pass me by without affecting me. and i didn't want this blog to be blinded, i didn't want me to be blinded.

ironically, i came across this information after i posted my spring playlist.. and i really don't think it to be a coincidence.

you may be wondering.. what on earth is she talking about? well.. i'm talking about the pop culture and how powerful they are to be able to influence the youth and the future generation. but it is not in a good way.. and what i read goes beyond just alcohol, sex and drugs. it gets deeper than that.

i think i'll just let you read the articles by yourself and you can have your own judgment about it.

i know that this may come to you like such a random thing. but i just thought that it was the right thing to do, to share this information because i for one, is very enlightened by it.

interpretations of rihanna's songs: umbrella, disturbia and russian roulette.

lady gaga as the puppet and interpretation of her songs: bad romance and telephone.

beyonce as sasha fierce and her song: sweet dreams.

interpretations of jay z's songs: run this town and on to the next one.

the 2009 vma awards
.

if you have anything to say about all this, i'd like to hear about it.

It is honestly why I hate Lady Gaga. Her songs can be catchy but they are blatantly about sex. Face it talk about sex or drugs or money and yay you have a song. Seriously birthday sex. Worst song ever. Well maybe not worst but up there. I just try to find my own music instead. I tend to end up liking folksy bands because they actually have meaning to them. Its also nice to not listen to the same music as everyone else because then you don't get sick of hearing the same thing everywhere. I know some really popular songs its impossible to avoid but it's nice because I don't hear them constantly. Idk when I see lady gaga I just think about all the little kids that listen to her I listened to Brittany spears and she wasn't the best role model and these kids have Lady Gaga?!
-sry i always post as anonymous i need to get a blog

No joke I was just having this argument with my friends! Some of us believe in it others don't and think it is over analyzed. I still am not sure. I mean it's pretty obvious what these songs mean when you really listen and I do believe the music industry, well the dominant artists and music companies, have a great influence on everyone and almost all of it is bad influence. These arguments are never ending but its good to be aware of these interpretations. Just in case you do realize their music might be leading you in the wrong direction in your life.

I found out about Vigilant Citizen not that long ago and I have to say the articles are very interesting, if not true. I'm not sure what to believe these days, but I do believe the media is quite a negative influence on people.

Oh new header!!! You have the cutest handwriting ever! Eh I think pop music is just... stupid. The lyrics are so awesome, but I think people enjoy the beat and dancing to the song. I don't listen to pop music, but I used to, but when you grow up, you'll learn to develop your taste in music and hopefully find music that speaks to you :)

Hmmm that really did make me think and wonder but when I saw those article titles, I thought that it was/you were referring to the sexual hints of the songs...but wow even more deeper, sinister and scary than that....

Wow I read all these and I was shocked. I've never looked at Rihanna's music videos before, and the symbolism was actually pretty blatant. At first with Umbrella, I was kinda like "Ehhh, this guy is just some conspiracy theorist", but then when I read the other ones, the similarity between them is actually pretty astounding. In the one about Sweet Dream by Beyonce when it was talking about butterflies and castles and stuff being used as symbolism for the mind control, it reminded me of Paramore's new album, Brand New Eyes. I wonder if they're a part of all this or not?

I have read so much about these sorts of things. I have a few friends who very much believe a lot of it...and the more you research on the internet the more scary it becomes.

I think it is very good to be aware of this, even if you believe it to be true or not.

Also it is very interesting to continue researching this and there is a lot of interesting stuff on youtube.

Thank you for this post! x

I forgot to compliment on the new header I just noticed days ago. About this post, these interpretations ought to be ignored. Well written, persuasive, convincing.. creative. I may be prejudiced because I'm a fan and I'm not superstitious, but I strongly believe these songs are not occult or something beyond normal.

I find semiotics fascinating but if you look at something hard enough, you can find whatever you want to find in it. That's why talking to other people is always a good idea and I enjoy seeing things from different perspectives. I think the site has some valid points and it's good to be aware of symbols and interpretations, but I certainly don't think there's some mastermind pushing occult messages onto all of us.

It's brave of you to post this - thank you. I volunteer with teenagers in youth ministry. We are vigilant to opening their eyes to the messages they get from pop culture. There will always be something new to distract us from God. You just have to mind your own moral compass and continue to develop the moral compass for children and teens.

I don't know if I believe everything that article says, but it's still very interesting, and creepy!

I want to suggest the song What Goes Around by Justin Timberlake and The Only Exception by Paramore.. I hope you'll like it.

I read some of these articles a while ago and I admit they are interesting and thought-provoking, but let's not exaggerate: you can find hidden meanings in anything because symbols are everywhere if you are looking for them.
It's true that some stars are over-exposed for the wrong reasons, I don't know how we can fix that, because not listening to their music won't help, we're just a drop in the sea. I'm a fan of Lady Gaga, I must admit, I like dancing to her songs and I am shocked and amazed by her videos, but I can't say she's my role model.

I do believe that a lot of today's most popular music is a bad influence, depending on the vulnerability of the person listening to it. A lot of it glorifies lifestyles involving sex and drugs, and even negative ways of treating women or just people in general. I'm not criticizing anything your suggesting, I just want to offer a viewpoint of the opposite. When you start digging for symbolism, you can find it anywhere. You can come up with deeper meanings in anything, even if nobody creating it thought of anything beyond the shallow, simple and obvious. You can turn anything into something worse. Take for example you're out somewhere and see someone you know. You're sure they've seen you but they just ignore you and walk on by. Well you could take that and say they're probably mad about yesterday when you hung out with so and so that they don't get along with and now they're not speaking to you. When actually, they had a busy day and were stressed out. They were thinking about so many things and not paying attention that they really honestly didn't notice you were standing there. I know that's a completely different application, but my point is, it's easy to turn nothing into something. So yes, watch out for those underlying negative moral values and principles of living in songs, and make sure you're not letting it affect what you think is okay. But also watch out for the opposite. Don't let people turn everything into something evil when it's not. There's plenty of bad in the world, but not everything is bad. But if that's what you want it to be, you can surely convince yourself of it. You can create rationalities to believe and support anything you want.

I read the Lady Gaga articles a few weeks ago and found them pretty interesting and a bit unnerving. However, I personally don't take them as 100% true. Because to me these articles are a form of "brainwashing" themselves. Their purpose is to create fear and panic. I, for one, do not want to be counted as scared sheep. Being aware is important but I think these articles take it to the level of paranoia.

Anywho! I really admire your use of water color. Simplistic but effective.

I really don't know what to think. At first I thought those were a bit funny but then I read more and more.. very creepy indeed...

I honestly think you could do this with most any 'artistic' song out there. I have plenty of indie, alternative music that could be easily broken down into 'symbols' for whatever you want, like the above ones.

I dislike pop culture and music like that for the blatant sexual obsession and the way women are seen as objects.

I can't say that I believe any of that. Honestly, it just made me roll my eyes.

I love your new dot.com layout and the other watercolour you did, most lovely!
In terms of the over-sexualised nature of such videos and the "oh, I'm so street and so real" image that Jay-Z promotes, yes it is concerning. It's hardly a new concern though, the fashion industry, music industry and film industry have been suffused by sex and image for a long time. It's shallow. It's fake. It's a terrible message to send to influencable people. But it's nothing new.

In regard to the Vigilant Citizen though, for goodness sake, IGNORE IT. Conspiracy theorists deserve to be listened to, you have to keep an open mind to all possibilities and it is good to be aware of diverse opinions. But come on, Gaga as a puppet of the Illuminati? That isn't worth thought or credence. Nor any of the other allegations.

All music videos employ symbolism, it's a tool of cinematography. In the case of Lady Gaga, her entire image is about saturation of imagery and advertising. Everything is only how someone perceives it.

I'm sorry this turned all ranty. It isn't that I don't believe that deceit and conspiracies exist, but this supernatural mind-control rabble is beyond ridiculous. Don't waste your time worrying. Smile instead (:

I don't know about all that hidden meaning stuff. Music is so subjective and personal. The author of those articles is interpreting the song based on his life experiences and personal beliefs. It could be totally different from how the artists interpret their own music, and what emotion they intent to send. That is one of the beauties of music, I believe. If someone wants to look at those songs on the surface and just enjoy them for what they are, perfect. And if they want to search for something different, then thats good too. In regards to pop songs, I personally don't see the benefit of looking deeper into them, I just see them as songs I can dance to.

(sorry for the long post :p)

wow! it really is hard to know what to think about all that. Some of it seems pretty hard to deny! I think that the majority at least of the people involved don't really know what they're doing, or they think its just a game or part of the biz. But really, they need to be way more careful. Fooling around with the occult is just setting yourself up for bad things and especially when you have millions of people following you - its scary. I wish I could hear straight from the artists' mouth though

This was such an eye opener. I'm not saying I agree with everything 100%, but how does one explain some very blatant facts, like using the signet of the church of Satan, for example? And pryaing to Satan??? Whatever is behind that, that is freaky stuff.

Some might be prejudiced because they like these artists. Let's just all keep an open mind.

Thank you for posting. I also work in the youth ministry and finding out about this will help out. God bless! :D

I read the Telephone article, and was really skeptical going in. I mean, I'm skeptical going into everything, but especially when it comes to conspiracy theory-type stuff. It was really interesting, but you need to take it with a grain of salt, like everything else. Question everything, right? And like a commenter said up above, you can find deeper meaning in anything if you look hard enough.
I don't pay much attention to mainstream media (I don't even own a TV...) but I like Lady Gaga. Maybe I'm just looking for a knock-off David Bowie, haha. She is refreshing compared to everyone else on the radio, and definitely entertaining.

It seems to me like Gaga is trying to open our eyes to the "brainwashing" with the video, though. So I'm not sure she can be accused of brainwashing if she is calling attention to it... smart of her, don't you think?

Anyway, I was not freaked out by the article, but I was freaked out by a lot of the ultra-Christian comments. I found it ironic they criticized Gaga of brainwashing before following up with stuff about judgement day? And one girl was afraid she had sinned just from reading the lyrics! How ridiculous. If they are afraid Gaga is brainwashing them, they should know that being critical of beliefs and things you hear extends to matters of faith, as well. What's the point of believing something if you can't stand to have it questioned, right?

Haha, that's my tangent.
